![]() IUCN-Med is pleased to announce that the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria version 3.1 has now been published in Arabic, with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID), and the objective of promoting red listing in Arabic countries at national and regional levels. ![]() The IUCN Mediterranean Red List programme is pleased to announce a new regional section on the IUCN Red List website, which highlights the outcomes of the Mediterranean Red List initiative. An ongoing process that aims at assessing more than 2000 Mediterranean species according to the IUCN Regional Red Listing Guidelines, the initiative provides information on the conservation status of the fauna and flora of the Mediterranean region, an area considered as a global biodiversity hotspot at both terrestrial and marine levels. ![]() The Council of Europe signed a Memorandum of Co-operation (MoC) with IUCN. The MoC complements and updates a co-operation agreement between both organisations dating from 1962, and it will be signed during the European Conference "Post-2010 Biodiversity Vision and Target - The role of protected areas and ecological networks in Europe", hosted by the Spanish Presidency of the EU and held in Madrid (Spain) on 26-27 January 2010. ![]() Cinta Castillo ha suscrito un convenio de colaboración ambiental con la UICN que apoya la Declaración de Granada y apuesta por la conservación de la biodiversidad. La titular de la Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Andalucía, Cinta Castillo, ha suscrito hoy en Copenhague un protocolo de entendimiento con la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (UICN) por el que ambas instituciones acuerdan establecer mecanismos de colaboración en materia ambiental. Este acuerdo se ha concretado durante el transcurso de la Cumbre del Clima, y crea un marco de cooperación en ámbitos como la conservación y mejora del medio ambiente, la utilización sostenible de los recursos naturales, la divulgación sobre la naturaleza o el fomento de las relaciones internacionales. Top ↑Habitat loss blamed for species decline in Europe | |

![]() Habitat loss is having a serious impact on Europe´s butterflies, beetles and dragonflies. The release of the European Red List, commissioned by the European Commission, shows that nine percent of butterflies, 11 percent of saproxylic beetles (beetles that depend on decaying wood) and 14 percent of dragonflies are threatened with extinction within Europe. Some species are so threatened that they are at risk of global extinction and are now included in the latest update of the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM. Full story → | |

![]() IUCN-Med welcomes 2 new entries: Carla Danelutti and Marco Ferrero, who are carrying out a Leonardo Project in IUCN for 4 months. During this period Carla will be working as Intern at the Ecosystem programme on the implementation of the following projects: CEPF, MOSAICS, AECID North Africa and Lebanon. She will be also helping on the organisation of workshops related to these projects. Marco will be working as communication intern: preparing the IUCN bulletin, assisting in the organization of incoming events, preparing and developing marketing materials for the IUCN and the campaign.
