Key actors for Mediterranean nature conservation will meet in Málaga on the 20th Anniversary of the Center for Mediterranean Cooperation

From 26 September to 2 October, the vast network of partners of IUCN-Med will come together in the city of Malaga to continue "Achieving Mediterranean". Representatives of national ministries, private foundations, NGOs, IUCN members, scientific institutions and civil society organisations will participate actively in the IUCN-Med Week in Malaga.

This series of events intends to promote the role of biodiversity conservation at the heart of new economic models that support the prosperity of Mediterranean societies in harmony with nature.

An event benefiting from a prominent presence of IUCN members





The IUCN national committees of several Mediterranean countries, as well as the Interregional Committee for Europe, North and Central Asia (ICENCA), the European Policy Advisory Group (EUPAG) and the Working Group for National Committee Development (WGNCD) will meet on 28 Sep. One day later, the Spanish IUCN Committee will host its annual meeting.

The prize awarded by the Malaga City Council recognizes the cooperation efforts put forward by IUCN-Med for over 20 years to conserve Mediterranean species and nature, protect environmental values ​​through its work with associations, raise public awareness about natural environments and tackle climate change.

An exciting cultural programme showcasing the link between Mediterranean nature and art





Historical itineraries, guided visits to museums, street-art performances and innovative rap-battles will shape a varied programme of cultural and artistic activities in each of the venues and around the city. If nature provides us with many types of food and services, it also plays a role for "spiritual food".

Follow the thematic meetings on fisheries bycatch, biodiversity on islands and tourism & climate





Various initiatives, projects, NGOs, academics and scientific institutions will gather during this week to discuss some of the hottest topics in Mediterranean conservation, including bycatch of marine vulnerable species, conserving biodiversity on Mediterranean islands and the linkages between tourism and climate change.

A series of gastronomic events will promote the role of local cuisine for biodiversity conservation





Four different events will involve local restaurants, gourmet chefs and street food stalls to demonstrate sustainable practices in food production and dishes that apply local recipes and ingredients.
