National meeting in Rabat to update IPA in Morocco

More than 20 experts on flora and Morocco's natural habitats gathered during May 31, 2016 in the "Centre de recherche forestier" of Rabat, to update the limits of Important Plant Areas (IPA) of Morocco. The meeting was coordinated by the Cooperation Center for Mediterranean IUCN.

Morocco has a remarkable flora diversity with over 3500 plant species. Important Plant Areas in Morocco are characterized by a high number of endemic species. This work allowed to update the limits of the 19 ZIPs identified in 2011 (Publication : Important Plant Areas in southern and eastern Mediterranean.

This initiative is part of the project "Conserving wild plants and habitats for people in the south and east Mediterranean" (IPAMed) . This project represents an ambitious initiative to develop plant conservation actions in the South and East of the Mediterranean region (including North Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans ).
