Workshop on Integrated Regional Assessment in Seville | |
|---|---|
![]() A meeting for several PEGASO partners was organized in Seville (Spain) last 28-29 May and coordinated by the University of Pablo Olavide. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the development of the Integrated Regional Assessment (IRA) and its interrelation with several tools and indicators elaborated in the framework of the project. The Integrated Regional Assessment seeks to present an overview of governance and institutional framework and their relation to the different threats and policy programmes. The IRA analysis is thus focused on the policy needed to implement Integrated Coastal Zone Management (IZCM), using available data from the analysis of the Land Use and Ecosystem Accounting methodology (LEAC), the Cumulative Impact Index and the ten PEGASO pilot sites across the Mediterranean and the Black Sea regions (CASES). The IRA will also provide an analysis of "Stage 0", before the implementation of the ICZM Protocol in the Mediterranean and Black Sea Region, and of the gaps to be addressed. At the meeting in Seville, the experts discussed and explored the possibilities to connect the regional assessments with the indicators and the work done up to now in the different CASES sites of the project. The experts also analysed how the work done could be incorporated into the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) through the development of local geonodes. For the SDI, many options were pointed out, such as the transformation of a selected set of indicators into a web service, to make them interoperable, or the sharing of a large amount of data and information through local geonodes. The meeting also presented a questionnaire carried out to assess the use and effectiveness of the indicators and the information compiled on human pressures that generate impacts on ecosystem services such as land use, metal seabed accumulation, exposure to different pollutants, maritime traffic hazards to cetaceans or fisheries pressure. The preliminary outcomes of the Integrated Regional Assessment will be presented during the Mediterranean Coast Day, which will be held this year in Rimini, Italy on September 25th.
